What's NewEuropean Commission:Assessment of risk to health and the environment posed by the use of organostannic compounds A comprehensive study is currently underway which is designed to bring together all of the latest scientific knowledge on organotins. The study is being undertaken by consultants in the United Kingdom on behalf of the European Commission. It follows sporadic claims by environmental groups, who attempted to class organotins as one issue, rather than a wide range of substances. This initiative by the European Commission to agree a scientific consensus is clearly welcome. The study includes a review of all organotins except those used in marine antifouling paints. The report is due out in early summer 2002. For more information please contact Dr. Brigitte Dero at |
